Ok, so I don’t have an Apple, though I’ve long been dreaming for one of its PowerBooks. It’s simply too expensive. Compared with PC laptops, that is. So ever since I heard Apple will switch to Intel I’ve been growing more and more impacient. They said they will make their laptops running on Intel, and that it will be cheaper.
After all the rumors running around the Internet, that on today’s speech Steve will present this new range of cheaper, cooler and Intel-driven laptops, you can hardly imagine my impatience.
So… what do I learn today? Well… thanks to Engadget who presented the speech for everybody , looks like Steve really trying to piss me off. Really, dude, I really wanted to buy a new laptop. At a price range of at most 1500 euros. An Apple with OSx running on Intel so I could still use my Windows and Linux apps. And?
Apple launches an Intel iMac (dual processor) for 1200$ (why would I buy such an expensive dektop, now that everybody is buying laptops?) and an Intel PowerBook (aka MacBookPro )at 2000$ in February.

Evil!!!
Well.. Steve, you are becoming a grumpy mean man: playing around with Apple fan wannabees like that. Why should PowerBooks or iBooks be luxury products? Why should they cost double than comparable (performance-wise) laptops? Why should I wait till February for them?
Grr…
(see the keynote here )
Update
And as if it wasn’t expensive enough, the Apple.fr store will sell the same MacBookPro at … (suspense, read carefully) 2700€ , meaning about 3300 $. Oh my god! Fucking shit! You guys are sick!
Update2
Although the price on the apple store Fr dropped to 2150€, almost convincing me that I want one, there seems to be quite a lot of stuff missing from a standard config: such as SVideo, Modem, DVD dual layer burning, etc. Damn it, looks like I’ll have to wait for the next generation of IntelPowerBooks. Bad, bad Steve
Update3
Besides all that, it seems that the MacBook won’t be able to run Windows XP . All the incentives for me buying this new gizmo have vanished into thin air…; damn it…

“Why should PowerBooks or iBooks be luxury products?”
It is very simple: because that is their positioning and because they can do it. Apple is not for everybody and they don’t want to have the product commoditized, hence they address the high end of the market.
On the other hand, Stevie was bragging that Apple is now making the fastest notebooks in the world. Innovative indeed. :D:D:D
pese. the image verification shit is killikng me, why dontcha switch to a decent blogging platform man?

It doesn’t make sense for Apple to stay fixed into a niche. They should be atacking harder to earn new adepts, now that their OS is better than the competitions. It won’t last, so they should try to use their advantage.
By adoption of Apples as a PC alternative, Apple could win a lot more(think of all the software they release…).
Oh, but the most annoying is the price difference between US and EU (although it has decreased from yesterday – now it says to be 2150€, which is lots better).
Sorry about the captcha, it is indeed necessary. I don’t have the patience to erase 100 comment spams daily, and until some other efficient spam filter plugin appears for Textpattern, people will have to bare with it a little longer.
OTOH, switching to a new bloggin platform is very difficult if I don’t want to break all the links pointing here… (and I don’t have the time to learn Apache and URL rewrite…)
