Alex Brie

IN THE PAST I’VE BEEN:

  • a National Olympic in Mathematics during high-school
  • a BSc in Software Engineering at Computer Science at Politehnica University of Bucharest
  • a Master of Science in Algorithms Research at Ecole Polytechnique, Paris
  • doing R&D in Artificial Intelligence and Evolutionary Algorithms
  • a software developer in several companies

PEOPLE OFFERED ME TO:

  • pursue a PhD in Computer Vision in France
  • work in a high-paying financial software corporation in Paris(headquartered near the Eiffel Tower)
  • interview with Google in California; interview with Google in Google
  • interview with Facebook in London
  • become the first employee of a gaming startup currently valued at tens of millions
  • candidate to become a member of the Parliament

I REJECTED THOSE OFFERS

I decided that, for me, independence was better than fortune, freedom was preferable to the corporate ladder and that I don’t like regular office hours, commute or deadlines.

INSTEAD:

In 2006 I became a consultant in social media, a freelancer in mobile and web development and a remote Ruby on Rails core team developer for a Silicon Valley startup.

In 2008 I also became a mobile solopreneur, designing, developing, releasing and marketing (by myself or in partnership with like-minded developers) over 100 mobile apps for iPhone and iPad with multi millions of downloads, featured by Apple, written about in Forbes Romania, FHM Romania, Copyblogger, The Next Web, How to Web, PCWorld, TUAW and more.

I partnered with millionaire mobile entrepreneurs  Carter Thomas and Chad Muretta and licensed and sold source codes for some of my apps to hundreds of mobile entrepreneurs who wanted to easily grow their mobile portfolios.

For 10 years, between 2003 and 2012, I’ve blogged regularly. Then I stopped. Now I’m thinking of starting again.

This is my #reblog. I write about topics that I’m passionate about: productivity, ergonomics, solopreneurship and personal development.
