The French way of living

Loiclemeur says some words concerning a post from the blogosphere:
I am not dissing The French.I just think they’re more concerned with preserving what they’ve got, rather than finding new things to get excited about .
All this is about the Parisian way of living, that lacks the “inventiveness” present on the streets of Manhattan.
I would add that it also lacks the “despair” and “fight for survival” present on the streets of Bucharest.

On the other hand, it has some good points, as I said in a comment of the original article, shown below:

As a 23 year old living in Paris for the last one year and something, I totally agree about the lack of dynamism of Paris and France, in general. The wages are not as high as in USA or even Germany, the latest trends get here a lot slower. The whole rythm is slow; walking in Paris on a Saturday morning or on a Sunday gives you the weird feeling of being in a desserted town. No shops opened, the streets are almost void but for the city center.

On the other hand, this is indeed the French style of living, and it’s a great one. The way of “taking it à la legère”, enjoying lunch and dinner in fancy restaurants, jogging every morning or evening, going out to cinema, theatre, opera or classical music concerts, reading the newest books.. These are values USA has been disregarding for too much time, with results such as illiteracy, obesity, stress and a general feeling of unfulfillment. Invention is not always the answer; nor is the overactive style of life. Enjoying your day is a much more pleasant one.
Will the French style survive as such in those modern, dynamic and innovative times? Probably not. But it is definitely the way of living that I wish for myself, my family and my friends.

Are you sure you’re only 23? It seems that the Romanian educational system still gives impressive results!

I would add one thing to your description of the French lifestyle.
They are selfconfident, and convinced that their way is the right one. Can’t blame them…

Thank you; it’s one of the best compliments I got so far :)

As for the selfconfidence of the French.. I had noticed it, but thought that it was characteristic to all successful western countries. I do believe that the Americans have it in an even larger amount.
The French have been exposed to culture and history since their birth, a trait distinguishing them from many others. It is hard to believe by a Romanian guy how come all the French young people play a musical instrument and exercice each week their favorite sport. It is hard to understand how come TV is much less important in their lives, replaced by philosophy books read in the metro or bus.
It is therefore hard to understand, but acceptable that their way of life might be the right one. It certainly is better than our native one :)

i ‘d like to say as a french , that even though we live on a slow rythm for you, i have the impression i’m running all the time from one place to another. I’”m longing for a quieter place, where i could really take my time .
