After reading the above-mentioned entry about names, I got to ponder a bit on the meanings of Alexandru Horia Brie

Alexandru – protector of man (alex + andros)
Horia – probably from Horea(a historical character, Romanian leader of an uprising against the Hungaryan reign over Transylvania) – it apparently was a surname because he used to sing the flutepipe at folk meetings of dancing the Hora (which is my belief that derives from the Latin hora meaning hour)
Brie – my family name, coming either from the France region of Brie(highly unlikely.. ), or from brie – a regionalism for the plant Meum athamanticum , or from a Dacian name meaning city
I’m also curious if the Romanian neologism a bria , coming from the french “briller”, has some Latin origin as well…
