My idea was to write some hard-to-believe SF stories about the future in a branded and copyrighted world. Sadly, though, it seems we already live in such a world, the only difference being that there are quite a lot of corporations, and that freedom is not dead yet.
So I guess I should bring to your attention a couple of articles from the net:
- there’s a guy who owns the trademark on the word Stealth and threatens to sue everyone using it in a brand name.
- there’s a guy who owns the trademark on freedom of expression
- a blogger who criticized a restaurant he ate at is being sued
- the non profit organization “the internet archive” that takes snapshots of the web for future reference is being sued for it
- the former Governor of Wisconsin and President Bush’s former Health and Human Services Secretary, Tommy Thompson, is setting an example by getting an RFID implant
… and many more…
Update
- oh, yeah, and M$ is trying to patent the smiley eomticons
+Update 2 - and the government can trace even the origin of your printed documents
