It was somewhen around April when I read on Slashdot about Paul Graham’s site. Without knowing anything about him, I visited his site: a simplistic but elegant one, with several links on Lisp manuals and projects, and some essays sections.
I read most of his essays in a hurry: captivating, cute, nerdish ; a philosophy and pledoary on hackers, nerds, geeks, Lisp, Python. And the guy keeps publishing, one interesting idea after another.
His site gave me me the urge to start writing online as well: essays, opinions, etc (this site is an indirect result).
It also gave me the urge to learn more about Lisp and Python (to my great shame, I still don’t know much, apart from the few things I had already studied before).
Also, it cooled down my previous intentions of developing a new, cool and all-powerful programming language: there seems that one already exist – Lisp ; therefore, all I could try to do was reinvent some dialect, stricter and maybe more developer-oriented. Just another one among the thousands already existing.. ; so not a great idea anyway, and probably not worthy.
Most of all, Paul Graham showed me the ways in which I am or am not a “hacker”: I am a crafter as well, driven by the urge of “making things”; however, I lack most of the determination, passion and abnegation required. Pretty much like Habarnam – Dunno , don’t you think ?
Anyway, let’s go back to recommending his site: interesting and educational essays on new trends in IT, the future of Software companies, the advantages of startups, nerds and crafters versus the big companies, traditionalism and scientists. Quite an interesting reading, that I recommend.

I recommend you “The cathedral and the bazaar” by Eric S. Raymond
Cool, thanks for reminding me about the cathedral.. .
I remember having found it long time ago, having read many references to it in various web essays but never quite took the time to read. As for the author’s name, I’d have completely forgotten it, if it weren’t for you ;).
So.. here I am, recommending ppl another website that I haven’t actually read, but will try to in the near future:
Eric S. Raymond
Enjoy the reading!
