From Halfway down the Danube I got over a new meme. Although it’s an “invite only” one, I’ll intrude myself into the game, since like any self-respecting-geek-wannabe I’ve been a comics fan for quite a while:

• If you could have one superpower, what would it be and why? (Assume you also get baseline superhero enhancements like moderately increased strength, endurance and agility.)

(since in my youth I had access mostly to DC Comics stuff, this is where the superheroes come from; although the Marvel ones were a lot cooler, character-wise)

I used to spend MONTHS while in the country, at my grandparents, trying to answer this question. I never quite found the answer, but here are my top three:

1. Superspeed, the Flash-like-one : not only can he run around the continent in a matter of seconds, but he can also run on water, and, most importantly, move through solid objects (it’s a vibration and molecule-control thing, so don’t ask any questions about). Ok, teleporting would probably be more practical, but… super speed is a lot cooler (it also involves faster thinking, off course)
2. Firestorm’s : he could rearrange atoms into different configurations, with such precision and control that he transformed, for instance, bombs into rubber ducks; or most other things into most other things. Not as cool as super-speed, but certainly the most useful(just imagine: being able to make gold out of lead, diamonds out of wood or Mac’s out of PC’s )
3. flying, Superman-style: not only could I attract the most chicks, but I’d never pay for plane tickets again; and, in extreme cases, I could even turn back time (see Superman 1 – the movie)

• Which, if any, ‘existing’ superhero(es) do you fancy, and why?

I’ve been quite a fan of Spiderman – how could you not feel bad for him? He doesn’t have any impressive superpowers; yet, he manages to fight vilains; and his personal life is hell. Poor guy…
I like Wolverine a lot too, ‘cause he is hairy, brutal, and a chick magnet; and sometimes unbreakable, too.

• Which, if any, ‘existing’ superhero(es) do you hate?

Ok, so I guess we don’t talk about supervillains, do we? Among the superHeroes, I can’t stand… Superman; too role-modelish. Without the kryptonite, he would be so annoyingly superior, that… it… annoys me

• OK, here’s the tough one. What would your superhero name be? (No prefab porn-name formulas here, you have to make up the name you think you’d be proud to mask under.)

I really can’t tell, can I? What if some day a radioactive spider bites me(or some other super-powers-giving incident happens) and you’ll google for my superhero name and you’ll learn my real identity? However, I’ll divulge you my third choice: Haze.

• For extra credit: Is there an ‘existing’ superhero with whom you identify/whom you would like to be?

No, not really. I wish I had the superpowers of the ones mentioned above, but not their personal issues. Or.. maybe I’d like to be Wolverine, whose personal life I don’t really know.
