This post is my apology to all the friends or contacts who received an invitation from me to join StumbleUpon. Sorry, everyone! I’m a stupid, stupid guy, who was tired and made a stupid mistake:
I was getting bored on StumbleUpon last night, and saw a link saying something like “see which of your friends are already on Stumble”. Clicked it, and the program was asking my Gmail password. I trust StumbleUpon, it’s a nice site, so I input my password. A nice looking page appeared, with a list of 20 something friends who were found to already have SU accounts. A button besides it, saying to Connect with them. I clicked it, and…
THE HORROR.
It said something like “sending invites to your contacts to use SU”. What? When did I agree to this? What on earth is happening?
I clicked Stop in the browser, went back to the page before and… THE SHOCK: below the fold, two page downs away, there was a huge list of all the people I’ve ever sent exchanged email from within Gmail. 500 persons: my teachers, bosses, ex-work-colleagues, ex-girlfriends, business partners, and, fucking, more. 500 people who got spammed, receiving an email that claimed to come from me. Well.. it did come from me, but I never really ment to send it.
I’m furious, but mostly I’m embarased.
Sorry, all! I won’t spam you again with an apology mail, but I am apologizing here. Sorry!
