What I’ve been doing lately to my site:
1. added the trackback facility via haloscan
2. used and modified a textpattern plugin that counts the number of articles in a given category/section mem_article_count ; I modified its behaviour to make it count only in categories from the current section, and to make it work with the default section
3. using the pfa_beginning plugin which automatically generates an excerpt using the first words of the article.
4. using the fiz_acid2 plugin which automatically shows the icon of the second category of the article.
starting from yesterday:
5. added the plugin for compatibility with xml-rpc for textpattern (found “here”:http://www.pixelmeadow.com/projects/xml-rpc-beta-2); hacked it so that comments are enabled by default, the comment invitation is Comment here! and the default categories are Romanian and __PHOTO (the most common ones in my blog)
Don’t ask me details, the result is that it allows users to post to the blog via a large number of tools.
6. started to use Flickr, a photo management and sharing site (the free account allows the upload of 10 mb photos /month) (not much, but the advantage is that it automatically generates several sizes for the photo and decreases the traffic on my site); some other cool features are automatic posting to various types of blogs (mine too via xml-rpc)
